1. What makes Rockmelon different from other services?
How it all started…
Alex André de la Porte, founder and father of a child with autism, became increasingly frustrated at the lack of information, insight and visibility across his son’s therapy program. He decided to reach out to Nicole, CEO of Autism Awareness and Australia’s leading advocate for the awareness and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder; and Stuart Waite, a leader in the development of digital products and software platforms, to start thinking of a solution.
The founding team then brought together an extensive group of parents, clinicians, therapists, animators, designers and engineers who have worked hard since then to completely reimagine the way technology is utilised to deliver innovative products and services for you and your family!
What is wrong with the current system?
Rockmelon is reimagining early intervention products and services for children on the Autism Spectrum.
1 in 68 children are born with Autism. The number of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder has been increasing each year, yet early intervention services remain largely unchanged by advancements in technology. For too long, access to early intervention services has been extremely limited and expensive. Treatments haven’t changed much in 50 years and capture little usable data.
Children with autism can learn, they just don't always learn in the same way as typically developing kids. We need to intervene and teach them. Industry experts recommend a minimum of 20 hours per week of early intervention treatment, but the majority of children receive far less - and some none at all. We at Rockmelon know this has to change.
What are we doing about it?
Rockmelon's mission is to ensure all children have access to life changing early intervention therapy, no matter where they are in the world and regardless of socioeconomic status.
We are building a comprehensive program on a scalable and extensive platform to help parents and their children achieve their best outcomes. Our first product, CONNECT+LEARN was created to provide parents and families of children with a developmental delay the tools and knowledge to help them help their children reach their best outcome.
2. Why is CONNECT+LEARN for me?
Rockmelon is not just another software platform. Our technology is more advanced than anything else currently on offer.
Rockmelon's CONNECT+LEARN allows you to record real-time data and monitor your child’s development over time. You can create a Team, set goals and record session reports. The platform also contains a huge range of specially developed content to support you as a parent and help you help your child reach their best outcome.
Here is a list of the most valuable features on Rockmelon's CONNECT+LEARN according to our users:
Skills: A Skill is structured content designed to help registered Rockmelon users develop new skills for assisting children with autism and other developmental delays. We have an extensive list of skills that come in every shape and form! From videos, to audio, to text only.
Flashpacks: Flashcards are used to help children learn, and are particularly effective for children with a developmental delay who are often visual learners. Rockmelon Flashpack’s are a digitally reimagined version of traditional flashcards. Using flashcards with your child can be really fun and there are lots of different ways you can ‘gamify’ learning to make it a fun experience for the both of you.Rockmelon Flashpacks also include a huge range of VIDEO Flashpacks, which can help your child learn the context of the flashcard as well as the word, for example, ‘running’ can be shown as a short video flashcard - not just a still image.
Goals: What are you hoping to achieve? What kind of support are you looking for? Setting goals helps us know what sort of content you need and we’ll tailor the program to reflect this. If your main focus is getting your child ready for school, Rockmelon's CONNECT+LEARN will help you get there!
Team: Parenting a child with a developmental delay is a team effort and the Rockmelon Team feature helps you make sure that everyone on your child’s Team is across their program. Our team feature is for all of the people who surround and support your child through their development journey. You can add anyone to your Team who is invested in your child’s success, such as another parent, grandparents, relatives, therapists, speech pathologists, teachers and babysitters. Every Team is different! Team is a great way to centralise all communications around your child’s development and ensure everyone is always on the same page. Team Members could include parents, grandparents, relatives, behavioural analysts, therapists, speech Pathologists, teachers or babysitters. Anyone invested in your child’s success can be part of your Team. What is also good about our team function Teams are a great way to centralise and track information on your child’s developmental progression that way all team members can be on the same page.
Calendar: Calendar helps ensure your Team knows what is happening. You and other members in your Team have the ability to create events and then invite other members to that event. Whether it is a speech therapy session or library day at preschool, everyone on your child’s Team will have clear visibility across your child’s schedule on any given day
Notes: Notes are another way to ensure everyone on your Team is informed and up-to-date. You can write a Quick Note to the Team or ask your therapist to capture a more detailed Session Report on your child's session. Using Quick Notes daily also allows you to start tracking valuable data on your child’s progress.
Tasks: Tasks means that everyone on your child’s Team will know what they need to do each week. You can assign Tasks to different people on the Team.
